AbstractS. I engines are widely used because of their operational reliability. When subjected to different loading conditions cause a significant increase polluting emissions of CO, HC, and NOx. The constant high prices of conventional fuels have forced many owners to opt for the conversion of their vehicles to use compressed natural gas (CNG). However, the use of this fuel in S.I engines shows some problems such as high temperature resulting in high emissions of NOx and the low rate compression produces high emissions of HC. In order to solve these problems, arise the alternative of to use mixtures between CNG and another low carbon fuel such as ethanol, which could be resulting in lower emissions. In this work, different proportions of ethanol and CNG concomitant injected were studied. It was used flexible S.I. engine 2.0, fitted with an electronic injection system for use of CNG. The exhaust gasses, CO2, HC, CO, and NOx were evaluated with an infrared gas analyzer. The results demonstrated that the concomitant burning of 20% of ethanol and 80% natural gas reduces CO2, CO, HC, and NOx emissions.
