             abstract = "The influence of the large-scale climatic variability dominant 
                         modes in the pacific and in the Atlantic on Amazonian rainfall is 
                         investigated. The composite technique of the Amazon precipitation 
                         anomalies is used in this work. The basis years for these 
                         composites are those in the period 1960-1998 with occurrences of 
                         extremes in the Southern Oscillation (El niņo or La Niņa) and the 
                         north/south warm (or cold) sea surface temperature (SST) anomalies 
                         dipole pattern in the tropical Atlantic. Warm (cold) dipole means 
                         positive (negative) anomalies in the tropical North Atlantic and 
                         negative (positive) anomalies in the tropical South Atlantic. 
                         Austral summer and autumn composites for extremes in the Southern 
                         Oscillation (El Niņo or La Niņa) and independently for north/south 
                         dipole pattern (warm or cold) of the SST anomalies in the tropical 
                         Atlantic present values (magnitude and sign) consistent with those 
                         found in previous works on the relationshi between Amazon rainfall 
                         variations and the SSt anomalies in the tropical Pacific and 
                         Atlantic. However, austral summer and autumn composites for the 
                         years with simultaneous occurrences of El Niņo and warm 
                         north/south dipole of the SST anomalies in the tropical Atlantic 
                         show negative precipitation anomalies extending eastward over the 
                         center-castern Amazon. This result indicates the important role 
                         played by the tropical Atlantic in the Amazon anomalous rainfall 
                         distribution.RESUMO: A influ{\^e}ncia dos modos de variabilidade 
                         clim{\'a}tica de grande escala dominantes no Pac{\'{\i}}fico e 
                         Atl{\^a}ntico nas chuvas da Amaz{\^o}nia {\'e} investigada. A 
                         t{\'e}cnica de comp{\'o}sitos das anomalias de 
                         precipita{\c{c}}{\~a}o da Amaz{\^o}nia {\'e} usada neste 
                         trabalho. Os anos base destes comp{\'o}sitos s{\~a}o aqueles do 
                         per{\'{\i}}odo 1960-1998 com ocorr{\^e}ncias de extremos na 
                         Oscila{\c{c}}{\~a}o Sul (El niņo ou la niņa) e de padr{\~a}o de 
                         dipolo norte/sul quente (ou frio) nas anomalias de TSM no 
                         Atl{\^a}ntito tropical Norte e negativas (positivas) no 
                         Atl{\^a}ntico tropical Sul. Comp{\'o}sitos de ver{\~a}o e 
                         outrono austrais para extremos na Oscila{\c{c}}{\~a}o Sul (El 
                         Niņo ou La Niņa) e independente para padr{\~a}o de dipolo norte 
                         sul (quente ou frio) de anomalias de TSM no Atl{\^a}ntico 
                         tropical, apresentam valores (magnitude e signal) consistentes com 
                         aqueles encontrados em trabalhos anteriores sobre a 
                         rela{\c{c}}{\~a}o entre as varia{\c{c}}{\~o}es de 
                         precipita{\c{c}}{\~a}o na Amaz{\^o}nia e anomalias de TSM no 
                         Pac{\'{\i}}fico e Atl{\^a}ntico tropicais. No entanto, 
                         comp{\'o}sitos dos ver{\~o}es e outonos austrais para os anos 
                         com ocorr{\^e}ncias simult{\^a}neas de El Niņo e dipolo quente 
                         norte/sul de anomalias de TSM no Atl{\^a}ntico tropical mostram 
                         anomalias negativas de precipita{\c{c}}{\~a}o estendendo-se para 
                         leste sobre a Amaz{\^o}nia centro-leste. Este resultado indica o 
                         importante papel desempenhado pelo Atl{\^a}ntico tropical na 
                         distribui{\c{c}}{\~a}o an{\^o}mala de precipita{\c{c}}{\~a}o 
                         na Amaz{\^o}nia.",
