| Abstract | As emissões de "airglow", luminescência atmosférica, são originadas por processos fotoquímicos atmosféricos, cuja excitação principal é devida à energia solar absorvida durante o dia. No entanto, a existência de luminescência atmosférica noturna, "nightglow", manifesta a persistência de espécies excitadas, apesar de a fonte de excitação que as produzem ser removida. A finalidade deste trabalho é apresentar as observações efetuadas pelo foguete de sondagem, Sonda III, cuja carga útil compreendia dois fotômetros, lançados em Natal (5.8 °S, 35.2 W); RN, 11 de dezembro de 1985, às 20:30 (hora do Brasil). Os registros, através dos fotômetros, são concernentes aos perfis integrados de emissão da banda (0,0) X761.9 nm, pertecente ao 0 2 (blE; - PE -g) sistema atmosférico, e da linha verde O(S) X557.7 nm, ambas produzidas no "nightglow" atmosférico, entre as altitudes de 80 a 120 km. Em seguida, levando em consideração uma análise critica dos modelos que melhor simulam os perfis observados, os dados serão utilizados para inferir as densidades numéricas do oxigênio atômico na região de emissão. S' importante salientar que pela primeira vez as duas emissões referentes são registradas e analisadas de modo simultâneo na região equatorial. ABSTRACT: Airglow emissions are originated from the atmospheric photochemical processes, whose principal excitation is due to the absorbed solar energy during the daytime. However, at night, the source of photochemical excitation is removed, yet the existence of the nightglow shows that excited species persist. The subject of this work is to show the observed airglow profiles measured by two photometers on oard a sounding rocket, Sonda III, launched in Natal (5.8° S, 35.2°W) on December 11, 1985, at 23:30 GMT (20:30 local time). - The atomic oxygen (II X557.7 nm, green line, and 02 (b 1 X+g - X'L) (0,0) g Atmospheric Band have been measured. Both emissions come from 80 to 120 km altitudes. Taking in consideration of recent model calculation and using the present observed profiles numerical density of atomic oxygen are calculated. 8his is the first simultaneous measurement of the two emissions in the equatorial region. | ||||||
