Abstract | O efeito do método de preparação dos catalisadores de ferro foi avaliado na produção de nanofibras de carbono e H2 a partir da decomposição catalítica do CH4. Os métodos de preparo dos catalisadores foram impregnação, coprecipitação e fusão. Os testes catalíticos foram realizados sob fluxo de CH4 a 800 °C e os catalisadores foram caracterizados por espectrometria de Mössbauer, DRX, área BET, TPR-H2, Raman e MEV. Os catalisadores preparados pelo método de fusão e impregnação apresentaram majoritariamente espécies de α-Fe2O3 com tamanho de cristalito de 25 nm. A amostra preparada pelo método de fusão foi ativo e estável por 3 horas, atingindo 50 vol.% de H2 e 2,7 gramas de carbono por grama de catalisador. Entretanto, o material preparado pelo método de impregnação teve parte da fase ativa inacessível (28 vol.% de H2) e não foi capaz de gerar nanofibras. O catalisador preparado pelo método de coprecipitação apresentou partículas amorfas e/ou nanopartículas de espécies Fe3+ gerados pela substituição isomórfica, que foram ativas (máximo de 50 vol.% de H2) e instáveis, capazes de produzir nanofibras de carbono. O carbono produzido apresentou baixa quantidade de defeitos. ABSTRACT: - The effect of the method of preparation of iron catalysts was evaluated on the production of carbon nanofibers and H2 from the catalytic decomposition of CH4. The catalyst preparation methods were impregnation, co-precipitation and fusion. The catalytic tests were carried out under CH4 flow at 800 °C and the catalysts were characterized by Mössbauer spectrometry, DRX, BET area, TPR-H2, Raman and MEV. The catalysts prepared by the fusion and impregnation method showed mostly α-Fe2O3 species with a crystallite size of 25 nm. The sample prepared by the fusion method was active and stable for 3 hours, reaching 50 vol.% of H2 and 2.7 grams of carbon per gram of catalyst. However, the material prepared by the impregnation method had part of the active phase inaccessible (28 vol.% H2) and was not able to generate nanofibers. The catalyst prepared by the co-precipitation method presented amorphous particles and/or nanoparticles of Fe3+ species generated by isomorphic substitution, which were active (maximum of 50 vol.% of H2) and unstable, capable of producing carbon nanofibers. The carbon produced had a low number of defects. |
