ABSTRACT: The objective of this work is the data analysis and image processing of the all-sky imager of atmospheric luminescence and gravity waves, operated at the Southern Space Observatory (OES / CRCRS / COCRE-INPE in São Martinho da Serra- RS). The system consists of a fisheye lens that is capable of observing a field of view of up to 180°. The application includes in bibliographic reviews of theses, dissertations, abstracts, articles and books in the area in question (Aeronomy) and the study of gravity waves observed in the Mesosphere, using the programming language in IDL for data processing and image analysis. However, no pre-processing is done to select the images considering the physical characteristics, identifying if it is usable for analysis or not. Thus, assuming that luminescence is a light that is emitted directly or indirectly by solar radiation, continuously throughout the earth's atmosphere, day and night, its imaging allows the visualization of gravity waves. In this work, the main waves observed were at night, because during the day the presence of solar radiation makes the spectrum difficult to decontaminate the image. Gravity waves represent one of the forms of propagation of oscillatory disturbances, which can propagate horizontally and vertically through the atmosphere. Thus, the generation of waves is caused by some mechanism that disturbs a portion of its balance and the propagation of this disturbance in wave form is conditioned by atmospheric stability. The main sources of wave generation are meteorological phenomena such as storms that cause thermal convection. In the analysis of data from the OES images, the days and times of occurrence of these gravity waves are considered, which can be divided into groups such as: ripples and bands. Therefore, this work tests the methodology used to determine the characteristic parameters of gravity waves such as wavelength, phase, period, propagation speed, direction and direction observed in airglow images. |
