ABSTRACT: This work aims to study the use of the continuous wavelet transform as a tool for the analysis of space data. Initially, the scholarship holder has contact with the theoretical part of the analysis wavelet, following courses and seminars, and studying some fundamental articles and books on the subject. Two initial studies are developed in this scientific initiation as a basis for understanding future applications in geophysics. The first is a study about the properties involving the Morse wavelet function, which is a wavelet analyzer function in frequency domain of the continuous wavelet transform. This wavelet function is analytic and encompasses other families of wavelets functions. The properties of the Morse wavelet are studied from a numerical-computational investigation that seeks to understand the effect caused by the variation of the parameters that determine its admissibility condition. In this step it is verified that the admissibility condition of the Morse wavelet tends exponentially to zero when these parameters that determine its behavior grow. The second study, still under development, deals with the computational implementation of the continuous wavelet transform from an algorithm that calculates the convolution between the wavelet analyzing function and the function to be analyzed directly in the Fourier domain. In this context, the FFTw library (fast Fourier transform of the west) is an object of study, as it is one of the current algorithms most used in high-performance computing. To complement the study, scientific editing tools such as LATEX, Beamer slide environment and templates such as the one used in this INPE report are also studied. In addition, scientific computing tools for the visualization of functions, multidimension data, programming environments in gnu/octave and Python for the algorithms, and a reinforcement of training in theoretical aspects of integration are also part of this first year of scientific initiation. |
