             abstract = "Neste trabalho estuda-se o processo de interceptacao da 
                         precipitacao pluviometrica pela cobertura vegetal da floresta 
                         tropical umida amazonica do tipo terra firme. Utilizam-se modelos 
                         numericos com bases fisicas bem definidas para a simulacao do 
                         processo e obtencao de um valor medio das perdas por 
                         interceptacao, na regiao da Reserva Ducke, Manaus/AM, Amazonia 
                         Central. Os modelos utilizados sao o SiB (Simple Biosphere Model), 
                         calibrado para o local por Sellers et al. em 1989 e o modelo 
                         especifico ao processo de intercepta{\c{c}}ao denominado modelo 
                         de Rutter (Rutter et al., 1971) implementado para o local por 
                         Lloyd et al. em 1988. O objetivo desta parte do trabalho e a 
                         comparacao dos resultados obtidos pelos dois modelos. 
                         Paralelamente, foram idealizados e implementados experimentos 
                         observacionais para a determinacao da interceptacao em mais dois 
                         pontos distintos da Amazonia: a Reserva Biologica do Jaru, 
                         municipio de Ji-Parana/RO na Amazonia Ocidental e o outro a 
                         Reserva da Vale do Rio Doce, municipio de Maraba/PA na Amazonia 
                         Oriental. A metodologia destes experimentos se baseia no trabalho 
                         de Lloyd e Marques de 1988. Os resultados obtidos com a modelagem 
                         do processo indicaram um comportamento bastante similar do SiB 
                         comparativamente ao modelo de Rutter, porem, com um valor estimado 
                         acima do observado para a regiao. A diferenca, no entanto, esta 
                         dentro do intervalo de erro na determinacao do valor observado. 
                         Para o periodo estudado, na Reserva Ducke, o modelo SiB estimou um 
                         total de perdas por intercepta{\c{c}}ao que equivalem a 10,9 da 
                         precipita{\c{c}}ao incidente total. O indice do modelo de Rutter 
                         foi de 12,9. Observou-se para a regiao de Ji-Parana um valor de 
                         12,5 para as perdas por interceptacao, no periodo de agosto de 
                         1992 a junho de 1993. Em Maraba, a interceptacao representou 13 da 
                         precipitacao incidente do periodo de setembro de 1992 a junho de 
                         1993. Espera-se dar prosseguimento ao experimento observacional 
                         por pelo menos mais um ano. ABSTRACT: In this work the process of 
                         interception of gross rainfall by the vegetative cover of 
                         Amazonian rainforest in terra firme forest is studied. Numerical 
                         models are used with well defined physical basis for the 
                         simulation of the process in obtaining of a medium value of the 
                         interception loss in the region of Reserva Ducke near Manaus/AM, 
                         Amazonia Central. The models used are the SiB (Simple Biosphere 
                         Model), calibrated for the site by Sellers et al. (1989) and the 
                         model for the process of interception, Rutter model (Rutter et 
                         al., 1971) implemented for the site by Lloyd et al. (1988). The 
                         objective of this part of the work is to compare of the results 
                         obtained by both models. In addition an observational experiment 
                         is conducted to get the interception loss of two different points 
                         in the Amazonia: one in the Reserva Biol{\'o}gica do Jaru in 
                         Ji-Paran{\'a}/RO, Amazonia Ocidental and the other in the Reserva 
                         do Vale do Rio Doce in Marab{\'a}/PA, Amazonia Oriental. The 
                         methodology is based on the work of Lloyd and Marques (1988). The 
                         results obtained with the modeling process indicated a behavior 
                         very similar to the model results although with an overestimated 
                         value for the region. The difference, however, is within the error 
                         limit in the determination of the observed value. For the period 
                         studied the SiB model estimated an interception loss equivalent to 
                         10,9% of total precipitation and the Rutter model estimated 12,9%. 
                         For the Ji-Paran{\'a} region 12,5% of interception loss was 
                         observed during the period August 1992 to July 1993. In Maraba the 
                         interception represented 13% of the gross rainfall during the 
                         period September 1992 to June 1993. It is proposed to carry on the 
                         observational experiment for at least one more year.",
