                         TM-LANDSAT 5 e a t{\'e}cnica de classifica{\c{c}}{\~a}o 
                         tem{\'a}tica de imagens denominada SINGLE-CELL foram utilizados 
                         com o prop{\'o}sito de desenvolver trabalhos de 
                         prospec{\c{c}}{\~a}o {{}} mineral regional dos dep{\'o}sitos de 
                         ferro, numa escala de 1:50.000. A {\'a}rea de estudo selecionada, 
                         de caracter{\'{\i}}stica semi-{\'a}rida, situa-se na 
                         por{\c{c}}{\~a}o norte do Estado da Bahia, e apresenta uma 
                         extens{\~a}o em torno de 14.200 Km2. Basicamente, a 
                         classifica{\c{c}}{\~a}o de imagens consistiu em extrapolar para 
                         toda a {\'a}rea-teste, os padr{\~o}es espectrais referentes aos 
                         minerais de ferro, extra{\'{\i}}dos dos dep{\'o}sitos de 
                         ferro-tit{\^a}nio-van{\'a}dio de Campo Alegre de Lourdes (BA). A 
                         sele{\c{c}}{\~a}o inicial de 30 alvos, onde os trabalhos de 
                         campo se concentraram, e uma posterior minimiza{\c{c}}{\~a}o da 
                         influencia de sombreamento de relevo, mostraram que a 
                         classifica{\c{c}}{\~a}o tem{\'a}tica pode dar grande 
                         contribui{\c{c}}{\~a}o {\~a} campanha de prospec{\c{c}}{\~a}o 
                         mineral, principalmente nas suas etapas iniciais. Na segunda parte 
                         desta pesquisa, os dados digitais do TM e as principais 
                         t{\'e}cnicas de realce de {{}} imagens foram utilizados na 
                         discrimina{\c{c}}{\~a}o de unidades {{}} litol{\'o}gicas da 
                         por{\c{c}}{\~a}o SW da serra dos Colomis (BA), 
                         munic{\'{\i}}pio de Nova Remanso (BA), numa superf{\'{\i}}cie 
                         de aproximadamente 7,5 x 7,5 Km. A escala de trabalho foi de 
                         1:25.000. Foram interpretadas visualmente, as seguintes 
                         composi{\c{c}}{\~o}es coloridas: a) RGB, precedida de 
                         amplia{\c{c}}{\~a}o linear de contraste, {\'e}pocas seca e 
                         {{chuvosa;}} b) IHS, {\'e}poca {{chuvosa;}} c) imagens 
                         componentes, precedidas por amplia{\c{c}}{\~a}o linear de 
                         contraste, {\'e}poca chuvosa. As imagens real{\c{c}}adas por 
                         divis{\~a}o de bandas n{\~a}o apresentaram 
                         informa{\c{c}}{\~o}es espectrais significativas, enquanto que os 
                         melhores resultados foram obtidos com a composi{\c{c}}{\~a}o 
                         IHS, bandas TM3, TM4 e TM5. A alta correla{\c{c}}{\~a}o obtida 
                         entre as classes espectrais delimitadas nas imagens e as unidades 
                         1ito1{\'o}gicas mapeadas previamente e verificadas no campo, 
                         demonstrou o grande potencial dos dados digitais do TM, 
                         processados pelas t{\'e}cnicas acima mencionadas, nos trabalhos 
                         de cartografia geol{\'o}gica. ABSTRACT: In the first part of the 
                         research, TM-LANDSAT 5 digital data and thematic classification 
                         technique known as SINGLE-CELL were used with the purpose of 
                         developing regional iron prospection research, in a 1:50,000 
                         scale. The Selected study area, with semi-arid characteristics, is 
                         located in the northern region of the State of Bahia and presents 
                         an enlargement of about 14,200 Km2. Basically, the image 
                         classification consisted in the extension, for the whole test 
                         area, of the spectral patterns related to the iron minerals and 
                         extracted from the Campo Alegre de Lourdes iron-titanium-vanadium 
                         deposits. The thirty targets that were initially selected for 
                         field work and a posterior minimization of relief influence 
                         indicated that the thematic classification can give a large 
                         contribution to the mineral search campaign, mainly at its initial 
                         phase. In the second part of this research, the TM digital data 
                         and image enhancement techniques were utilized in lithologic units 
                         discrimination in the SW of Serra dos Colomis, Nova Remanso County 
                         (BA), in an area of 7.5 x 7.5 km. The work was realized at the 
                         1:25,000 scale. The following color image compositions were 
                         interpreted: a) RGB, pre-processed by contrast linear enlargement 
                         of the images extrated in dry and rainy {{seasons;}} b) IHS, in 
                         rainy {{season;}} and c) principal component images, pre-processed 
                         by contrast linear enlargement of the images in rainy season. 
                         Images enhanced by band ratio did not present expressive spectral 
                         informations and better results were obtained by utilizing the IHS 
                         composition of TM3, TM4 The high correlation obtained between the 
                         delimited spectral classes in the images and the previously mapped 
                         lithologic units and with field checking, demonstrated the TM 
                         digital data potencial for geologic mapping, processed by the 
                         above techniques.",
